Storage and maintenance of commonly used fishing gear

Fishing gear is widely used in fishery production, and its correct use and maintenance are of great significance for reducing costs, improving economic benefits, and extending service life. To do a good job in storing fishing gear, one should first have an understanding of the physical and chemical properties of various fishing gear. For example, some production units place ethylene and nylon mesh sheets in the open air for a long time, causing a decrease in the strength of the mesh and reducing the service life of fishing gear, often resulting in significant economic losses. Therefore, the storage and maintenance of fishing gear should pay attention to the following points:

(1) Before storing fishing gear, the dirt, such as mud, fish grease, and other attachments on the gear should be washed clean with fresh water, then dried, and the floating, sinking, and other accessories should be removed and stored separately. Before storing the fishing hook, it should be washed clean, sharpened, and coated with rust proof oil, and then stored in a dry place.

(2) The storage area should maintain air circulation and be free from direct sunlight. For fishing gear with a small quantity and volume, it can be tied and hung on the roof beam. For fishing gear with a large quantity and volume, it should be stored in a warehouse with a high foundation and good ventilation conditions.

(3) During storage, check frequently. When the weather is clear and the air is dry, open the doors and windows of the warehouse to allow air circulation. In rainy or high temperature conditions, the doors and windows of the warehouse must be strictly closed and not opened arbitrarily. During the rainy or hot season, it is even more important to pay attention to warehouses, as plant fiber nets and ropes are prone to mold. Once the weather clears, they should be immediately exposed to sunlight for drying, and if necessary, appropriate fungicides can be sprayed. In the warehouse, attention should also be paid to insect and rodent control work.

(4) Although synthetic fibers have better corrosion resistance than plant fibers, some synthetic fibers such as acrylic and nylon can also produce mold spots and affect material strength under prolonged high temperatures and high humidity. Therefore, attention should also be paid to ventilation and drying for these fishing gear made of synthetic fibers. Most synthetic fibers lack good resistance to sunlight. Do not expose fishing gear made of these materials to sunlight for a long time. Some synthetic fiber mesh sheets should not be excessively folded or bent to avoid affecting the strength of the mesh cable and reducing its service life.

(5) During or after the operation, the fishing gear should be washed and cleared of debris. This is not only closely related to the fishing effect, but also has a significant impact on the protection of the fishing gear. If the debris attached to the mesh is not removed, the mesh will tear due to uneven force during operation.
